Gliding around Giethoorn in a punt, also called punting, is unique in the Netherlands. When driving a typical Giethoorn punt, you use your own muscle power with a punt pole (it can’t be more eco-friendly); the Giethoorn canals and the Bovenwiede are no deeper than 1 metre and your punt pole contacts the hard sand. It’s good exercise and the punt usually takes no more than five people.

There are special punting arrangements, punting puzzle tours, the Giethoorn handicraft tour, milk-can races with punts, punting championships, picnic tours and sailing trips with punts. A punt has a spritsail that makes for easy sailing.

You can rent a punt for Є30 a day. A route description is included. Punting in Giethoorn starts at the Dames van de Jonge Hotel.
